About Our Lands

Land is SNC's most valuable possession.  Our shareholders and their families have used the land for centuries to provide for their families and communities.  Subsistence is a way of life.

To preserve and protect Sitnasuak's land, the Board of Directors first adopted a Land Use Policy in 1986, revising it in both 1997 and 2004.  Sitnasuak's Land Use Policy guides both the staff and the SNC Land Committee.  The current Land Use Policy provides for subsistence activities, recreational use and for industrial uses.  Permits are approved on an annual basis.  Campsite permits total approximately 200 every year. Approximately 30 of all permits issued are issued annually to local individuals who are not Sitnasuak shareholders.

If you have any questions, please note the hours of operation for the SNC Land Department.
•During winter (at freeze-up) and spring (when the snow starts melting), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
•During summer (when fishing season starts) and fall (when hunting season starts), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The remaining office hours of the work day during summer and fall may be reserved for field work.  Prior to freeze-up, SNC Land staff conducts campsite and other permit holder's corner post marking as well as other field examination work, which is the reason for shorter office hours.

Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have concerning Sitnasuak's land.
